Abstract

Natural dyes in the Brazilian textile industry are of great relevance due to the environmental impacts caused by synthetic dyes. In this context, this study aims to investigate the potential of dyeing silk fabric using Iresine herbstii extract as a natural dye. The methodology adopted involved the extraction of the dye from the Iresine herbstii plant, followed by the dyeing process of the selected fabric. Tests were performed to evaluate the color intensity and color fastness to washing and rubbing of the dyed fabrics. The results obtained demonstrated that Iresine herbstii extract has a promising potential as a natural dye for silk fabric. The dyed fabrics exhibited good color intensity, remaining stable even after several washes. In addition, the use of natural dyes such as Iresine herbstii extract can contribute to reducing the environmental impact caused by the textile industry. These findings are relevant to the textile industry, since they demonstrate the viability of using natural dyes as an alternative to synthetic dyes, promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact. Furthermore, the use of natural dyes can add value to textile products, meeting the growing consumer demand for sustainable practices. In summary, this study highlights the potential of Iresine herbstii extract as a natural dye for silk fabrics. The results obtained reinforce the importance of using natural dyes in the textile industry as an ecologically sustainable measure, contributing to the preservation of the environment.
