This article aims at presenting an analysis of a technology, called Power Line Communication (PLC), which utilizes the communication of data using the power grid as a means of transmission. This technology is used by many electric power companies since 1920 to perform remote measures and remote control of equipment in substations. Currently with new techniques of modulation and low-cost telecommunications systems, it is possible to apply this technology in mass to be deployed in telemetry systems, automation and even provide access to broadband Internet to end users. Therefore, this article will address some applications of PLC technology in Brazil, some regulatory aspects of this new technology and highlights the project under development in the pre-incubator of SENAI-Florianopolis.
